The Green Drain can be used in the outlet connections of floor drain bodies or the inside of the floor drain strainers to seal the opening, preventing odors, sewer gases, and insects from entering up through the floor drain grate. The Green Drain's four flexible silicone sealing ribs ensure easy installation into openings that have variations in size. The Green Drain will open to allow drainage and close when there is no water flow. It can be used in new construction or retro-fit applications where trap primers were never installed. It is a simple alternative to a trap primer with no mechanical parts to replace or maintain.

Works great - just get it deep enough

I wrote the first review on this 4 years ago. Like others, I suggested that it restricts water flow a little too much for use in the shower. I fixed the problem by placing it as deep as I could reach it in the drain pipe - about 4 inches down. I can still get it out & back in with a needle nose pliers. I've been using the same drain seal for 4 years now and it has worked flawlessly- I don't have any water pooling in the shower. About twice a year it starts to plug up and I'll pull it out to clean all the hair and soap scum off which is expected for this application.

I own an ice cream and frozen yogurt shop. As you can imagine, lots of melted sweets go down the drain as I am cleaning everything. Started to have a real problem with drain and fruit flys. Nothing was working. Then I discovered this product and decided to give it a try. WOW! The flys are almost gone and by the way so is the drain odor that used to come up from time to time. I highly recommend this product.

Works, but it leaves a Lagoon in my shower.

Our septic smell has bern resolved. When we take a shower water does build up like a lagoon until the gravity of the water opens the valve flaps.

Restricts the water flow just a tad too much.

I used to have sewer gases leak out of my shower drain. This product works perfectly at keeping the gases out. Unfortunately it restricts the water flow just a little too much and the bottom of the shower very slowly begins to pool with water. If I shower for longer then 5 minutes it starts to leak out onto the floor. I'm aiming to change the shower head to reduce the water output.
